This past year, the governor of California signed the End-Of-Life Option Act, allowing sick people the option to take their own life with assistance of a medical staff. There are now five states allowing this type of assisted suicide, with much controversy involving the Catholic church in particular. Many believe that there should be no option to take ones own life. Others believe that there should be the option for a person to 'die with dignity' if they are in a physical state where it is too hard to live.
I believe that the option should only be there to be decided by a jury of medical professionals. If a person wishes to end their life because they are in a physical state of illness in which it is too difficult to live and there is nothing that can be done to treat the person. If this is how the person feels, it should be up to a jury to talk and decide whether the person would be at ease with the self-induced death. Much like when an insurance company decides whether to pay for medical treatment.

kenley turner- It is probably a very difficult delima for the family of whoever wishes assisted suicide
ReplyDeleteI think it's an extremely difficult case, but if moderated and supervised carefully, it could be of great use to those who are suffering/dying of chronic illnesses or diseases. It's a more high-level version of putting a dog out of it's misery but injecting it, only the dog can decide for himself and control the outcome. We just have to be EXTREMELY cautious!
