Cheerios accidentally puts gluten in "gluten-free" cheerios by Eleanor E-W

Cheerios accidentally sent out 1.8 million boxes of Cheerios that were supposedly gluten free, but actually contained wheat! After receiving complaints and reports of illness, they are recalling the boxes that may contain wheat, and apologizing for the issue.
Wow, this is terrible. Having gluten in cereal that is supposed to be gluten free could be a real hazard for people with any kind of gluten problem. The article didn't say anyone had been seriously injured, so it definitely could have been a lot worse, but still. Makes you kind of not trust the packaging anymore.

  1. Oh gosh, this is something companies have to be careful with, all their work could collapse because of a simple mistake, not to mention how dangerous it is to other people. (Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)

  3. Whoa. Not good people. I'm happy that this didn't completely escalate like the Blue Bell epidemic (except for the fact that that was much more intense and on a way higher scale...). I wonder how this could even happen and if it is an easy mistake then why doesn't it happen more often? Do we even notice the majority of the time? I hope that they recalled all the boxes and this isn't a continuing problem.

  6. It is really shocking that Cheerios failed to check their gluten-free cereal for gluten. Many people have very serious gluten allergies, so companies really cannot afford to make mistakes like this. Additionally, if a product is advertised as gluten-free, it is extremely important that it lives up to this claim. I hope that Cheerios faces consequences for its thoughtless actions.

  7. Matthew Homsher 9th- This is a terrible accident. General Mills, the company that manufactures Cheerios, will pay for this Cheerios mistake. The food and drug administration will most likely sue or demand a large fine for the damage caused. If they don't, then an individual will.

  9. The cheerios company needs to say sorry to all those people they hurt. It is a very serious issue to be gluten free.

  10. I didn't know this was an accident. Cheerios is such a popular brand, I imagine a lot of gluten-free people were affected by the mistake.
