"Instead of Columbus Day, some celebrate this"
In this article, the author points out that many people don't call or celebrate October 12 Columbus Day anymore. They celebrate people's day. People's day celebrates everyone who first explored or settled in America and all heritage of these people. America wasn't discovered or found by one person, it was discovered by many and many people went into the starting of the new country and people's day is meant to celebrate them.
I'm so glad people are doing this because for years I've wondered why we celebrate Colmbus when he was a jerk who gave small pox to the Indians and who thought America was India until Amerigo proved him wrong.

It would be great if this became more widespread. I would far rather celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day than glorify a murderer with a boat.
