This year marks the 100th year anniversary of the famous Hollywood movie '' The Birth of a Nation'', released in April 1915. Although the movie displays the reconstruction era after the civil war and the outcomes of many battles. The movie is mainly known for its glorification of the Ku Klux Klan, showing how disastrous racial equality was in the south.
This can be tide back to APUSH in many different way. One important aspect that the movie brings to the viewers is the disgusting mind set of white men in the south around the era. Though the movie has received many negative reviews and protest against it like Eric Foner (a leading Reconstruction historian) for example who quoted the movie in a recent interview an “irreparable damage to public consciousness and also to race relations.” The movie is valuable to American History because it shows the reality of Americans during the era, not sugar coating any ideas of racial differences , only showing the actual thoughts of white males in the south against African Americans.
This movie had a large role in the resurfacing of the KKK in the 20's.
