Over the weekend (before February 2nd) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a three year old shot his father and pregnant mother in a hotel room. The boy removed the gun from his mother's purse and shot his father in the lower backside. The bullet exited and hit the mother's right shoulder. Both parents were treated in the hospital; the mother is in stable condition, and the father was treated and released. The boy and his two year old sister, who was also in the hotel room during the time, were not injured, and are currently under the care of the Children's Youth and Family Department. The case is being examined by the Albuquerque District Attorney's Office, who will determine if the parents will be charged with criminal negligence.
This was a very dangerous situation. If a family is going to bear a gun, which can be argued due to our 2nd Amendment (the right to bear arms for self-protection), how can the parents be so careless as to leave it in a place easily open to their child. If anyone was killed in the incident, then this would have been tragic and sad. This is the very reason why people debate over this right to bear arms because the "arms" can cause accidents and be used for the wrong reasons.

Adults really need to be more careful. If they believe that they are responsible enough to carry a gun, they need to be more aware in where they keep. If you know you have a gun, why even keep it in reach of a child?
ReplyDeleteI have heard that more often then actually protecting their family with their guns they actually end up hurting the people around them which is such a problem.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds terrifying, I feel bad for the parents of course but poor kid for having to grow up with this enormous guilt.
