At 100 years old, the oldest living crewman that survived the Pearl Harbor attack on the USS Arizona has passed away. Retired Navy Lt. Commander Joseph Langdell died last week in a nursing home in Northern California. The USS Arizona Reunion Association stated that as far as they knew, Langdell was the last surviving officer from the ship which lost 1,177 men on December 7, 1941. The association says there are 8 more survivors still living.

As we make our way closer to WW2 in class, I'm sure that the Pearl Harbor attack will hold great significance towards this time period. It's tragic that we have lost someone that could provide such great input and insight on this day in this nation's history.

  1. This is incredible that this man was still holding onto life at 100, having been through so much.. I agree that his presence and input towards today's world and our own nation's past.. All commemoration of Joseph Langdell is well deserved, I believe. It's pleasant to hear that there are still survivors of the 'long ago past' that can input and give insight into how the world and our own nation used to be.
