An birth defect called "gastroschisis" -- a condition in which the baby's intestines poke out of their body, is on the rise. This condition has doubled and for non-hispanic black women has gone up by 200%. This has doctors very concerned.

This relates to US history becuase polio was a serious disease that effectef children and had the country racing for a cure. This disease could have devastating effects unless treated.
