Tajia Stroud (5th period): Animals Choose Their Tunes***

Summary***
According to recent studies, music choices vary not only per person, but per species as well. For example, research showed that listening to audio books and people reading relaxed dogs more than popular music or even classical. Tamara Montrose, program manager of Animal Behaviour and Welfare at Hartpury College, stated that she found it rather surprising that audio books happened to be the more favorable than classical music because of the positive effects of classical music that have been documented in a range of other species. Listening dogs tended to show peaceful behavior and reduced barking, pacing, and standing. They even slept more pleasantly after listening to the audio book.

Analysis***
I think that this article finally brought to attention that animals do have a perception about things that some humans believe they can't understand. The published research about dogs responding to audio books and narrators made me think that it might have more to do with the fact that dogs have lived with humans for so long. Perhaps dogs have gotten more accustomed to their human's commands and tones so our voices make them feel much more comforted. I think that we haven't really tried to notice how much animals respond to everyday things that they seem to like or dislike. The advancement in research lately might actually show us a lot more than we thought we could ever know about the creatures that we share the earth with.

  1. I think that animals are as perceptive as humans- the only difference is species, obviously, making it harder to communicate. Animals, I believe, will heavily impact our future.
