California Escapees Back in Jail // Olivia Gillis P3

The two remaining fugitives from a California jailbreak last week are now back in custody. The two were captured Saturday morning after someone alerted officers that the car the escapees were using had been spotted. When officers found one fugitive, he attempted to sprint off but didn't make it very far. The other escapee was found in a car at a nearby Whole Foods. Detectives are trying to figure out if the two had any help from outside sources. The third escapee was taken into custody on Friday in Santa Ana. The trio most likely broke out of a high security jail after a 5am headcount on January 22, and the escape was discovered 15 hours later. The inmates used tools to cut through bars and into air vents, eventually finding a way out. This is the first time anyone has escaped since 1998.
Last week, I did my current event on this same story, except the escapees had yet to have been found. It's very comforting to everyone to know that these criminals have been found and taken back into custody, especially those who live in the Santa Ana area. Luckily, the trio didn't make it far from the jail where they were originally arrested, and were easily tracked down by detectives. Hopefully precautions will be taken in the future to ensure that events like this one won't happen again.

  1. I am glad to know that the criminals are back where they belong, but it is still scary to think that if this incident was able to happen, it may be able to happen again. The level of security definitely needs to be addressed.
