Taytum Buford(Period 6)- Women Indicted in Jury

Summary: A Grand Prairie woman who was charged with murder after calling 911 to report that she’d shot her father is back at home after a Dallas County grand jury declined to indict her last month. The grand jury handed up its decision about Cassie Hughes, 51, on Dec. 29, Dallas County court records show.Beverly Hughes, Cassie Hughes’ sister, said in a phone interview that there were extenuating circumstances behind the shooting but said she could not elaborate.“The only thing I can tell you is we do support the verdict of the grand jury,” Beverly Hughes said. “We are still mourning the loss of my Dad. We all loved him very much, including my sister.”My sister is a wonderful person. She really is. She’s never been in any kind of trouble. Never had any thing more than a traffic tickets. My sister’s a good girl.“According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Hughes called 911 shortly after 1 p.m. July 15, saying she wanted to report a shooting.Hughes told dispatchers that she shot her father, 90-year-old Robert Hughes, in the back of the head and that she would not give the police a fight, according to the affidavit. She also told dispatchers that her father was ”gone,“ the affidavit states. As officers arrived at the house in the 1900 block of Westminster Drive, Hughes came outside and surrendered to them inside the house, officers found Robert Hughes dead, seated on the couch shot in the back of his head. No one else was in the house, the affidavit states.Hughes’ attorney, Assistant Public Defender Michaela Himes, did not return messages on Monday seeking comment, nor did the Dallas County district attorney’s office.
Analysis: Obviously, what she did is awful. I agree with what the law did and this can relate back to when our Supreme Court System was formed.

  1. That's so interesting that she wouldn't elaborate? Is it possible this could be some kind of Right To Die incident? Or is there something deeper going on here...?

Didn't want to elaborate? That's so strange. Why wasn't she indicted? Was she charged not guilty on the grounds of insanity? If not, I don't see in any way how she wasn't indicted.
