Family fights to save pit bull from being 'impounded' By: Heather McKay

Joanna Armand started an online petition to protect pit bull Zeus from an uncertain fate. The petition, which asks the village of Moreauville, Louisiana to reverse a "vicious dog" ban against pit bulls and rottweilers, has drawn nearly 40,000 signatures. The ordinance, banning pit bulls and rottweilers was passed in October and is planned to go into effect on December 1. The aim is to rid the town of these so called "vicious" dogs but Joanna Armand sees them differently. Her dog, Zeus is far from vicious and provides love and support for her children, especially daughter O'Hara, who suffers from severe neck problems and uses a Halo brace and a wheelchair.
While i can see what they are trying to accomplish here, I am strongly against it. These ordinances can have effects, both good and bad, but i believe that if the ban was based on behavior and owners failure to restrict and train their dogs properly rather than breed (which pit bull is not even an actual breed) the negatives would be greatly decreased. I know many many dogs of this type who are the sweetest thing and I disagree strongly with the assumption that they are all dangerous. Granted, many are not trained well and extremely aggressive, however I believe that these dogs should be cared for separately, not thrown into a stereotype that causes loved family dogs to be taken away.

  1. I also disagree with this. This reminds me of American history where people make assumptions based on a certain culture just because a couple of those people might cause a problem. Not all people and animals are the same so you can't stereotype a breed just because previous dogs of that breed have been a problem.

  2. wow this is dumb. If you train a dog to be bad it will be violent if you train them properly then it really doesnt matter what breed.

  3. Wow. I agree with Maddie and Madana. That is a very ignorant and stereotypical statement to make and I disagree as well.
