State of Emergency Declared in Ferguson by Corran Nolan

Before the decision by the Grand Jury on whether or not to indict officer Darren Wilson of the Ferguson Police Department for the fatal shooting of Micheal Brown, the Governor of Missouri, Jay Nixon, has called in the National Guard to take the leading role away from Ferguson's police force. He believes that the decision may possibly incite further unrest in the city, and the Guard will act as a "secondary police force", while the ACTUAL Ferguson police will be taking routine calls. The Governor recognizes the importance of the right for peaceful protest, but says the the "ugliness" that occurred in Ferguson after the shooting "must not be repeated."

This is an important article, especially now, because it talks about the people's rights and freedoms given by the Constitution, and the rights and methods of appropriate government reaction, similar to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's, or the Draft Riots. These are important parts in our history, and it is instances like these which lead to the eventual formation of our country in the first place, including one of the most important media campaigns in our history, the reaction to the Boston Massacre. Hopefully, even with the increased military presence in the area, bloodshed can be avoided.

  1. I see no reason for there to be such panic surrounding the force. As the article says, it will just cause more unrest for the city and could possibly instigate further problems than what there is now.
