Grand jury rules in Michael Brown's death by Milan Hamilton

A Missouri grand jury has decided not to indict Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson in the August 9 shooting death of Michael Brown. This issue has become a large factor of racial tension in the St. Louis suburb. An entire row of businesses are now on fire on West Florissant Avenue, a major street in Ferguson, Missouri. There are so many fires in the city that firefighters haven't been able to reach all of them. Several more businesses are being looted or set on fire and protestors have shit down Interstate 44. The parents of Michael Brown specifically did not want this and spoke of having peaceful protests for the justice of his son.

What's interesting about this is the fact that all of these things are happening as we are talking about slavery and sectionalism in class. Many of the ideas expressed in protests for Michael Brown can lead all the way back to the Civil War Era. Many people today are claiming of injustices against him and basically being denied some rights that she should've been given. Just the same, slaves were being treated as property and during this time, free blacks were struggling to make sure they had the same rights as everyone else. This is so important because it shows America how we never fully settled issues in racism and it obviously very evident today. Its causing riots, revolts and violence as it did in the Civil Rights time. Racism is a huge problem in a country that seems to be founded on "freedom." How can we pledge saying "with liberty and justice for all" of we can't even live what we're saying? My heart is saddened because innocent people are dying and people are STILL not being tweeted equally because of the color of their skin. My heart goes out for his family and Ferguson. I'm hoping that we can fix this situation and creating long term equality for everyone.
