Ashoka Mukpo, a NBC News cameraman in Liberia, has been diagnosed with Ebola. Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, the 33 year old was on a freelance assignment for the network in Monrovia. He was reporting on the outbreak while there. He is reportedly being transferred to the isolation unit at the Nebraska Medical Center. He is the fifth American infected with the disease and began showing symptoms on Wednesday. He was tested with the virus and the results came back positive 12 hours later. The other four members in his team are feeling well. His family remains optimistic that he will be cured but admit to being very nervous. Mukpo thinks he was infected when he was decontaminating a car. There is a possibility something might have splashed on his body. After he returned from a 3 year term working in Liberia, he returned to help with the situation. His mother told WBZ, "he felt it was very important to go back and document the impact that this is having, socially and health-wise and financially." She, along with the rest of his loved ones, are hoping for the best.
The article was created by a reporter of WBZ on October 3, 2014 at 12:28 PM. I was aware of the Ebola outbreak but not this incident in particular. It was written for the general public to update them on the situation. The more diagnosis' that are reported, the more uneasy I am getting about the severity of what's going on.
