This past Sunday afternoon, a Los Angelos woman named Genoveva Nunez-Figueroa was arrested for attempting to break into a man's house by going down the chimmney. The homeowner told authorities that he had met the woman online and that they had gone on a few dates, but recently ended the relationship. The scarier part, though, is that this was the second time the woman was found on his roof. Relationship expert Rachel DeAlto comments on the situation as well as giving some note-worthy advice on online dating. She suggets that people make a seperate e-mail address to use for online dating, as well as being aware of innocent-looking things that can turn out to be major red flags, such as online dating profiles being written in all caps. "When you have a creepy person talking in all caps and not making any sense in a sentence, then you might want to question who you're talking to."
I think this is a creepy, but very good example of how a seemingly harmless thing can turn into something life-threatening. Rachel DeAlto gives very good advice that I believe people reading this article should keep in mind when online dating or anything else that involves communicating through a screen, which is to watch out for suspicious activity and keep information about yourself private unless you know for a fact that it is safe to reveal. So just keep those things in mind, and be safe online!

Oh wow! This is actually quite terrifying! Why are people so crazy!?

That is terrifying... Out of all things I would least expect a roof.

I've never heard anything like that! I wonder how she got on the roof though, does she just carry around a ladder? I wonder what the guy is going to do now that a crazy lady knows where he lives...
ReplyDeleteYou would think that with the various flaws in online dating (Catfish, anyone?) people would begin to practice more cautious behaviors. The woman is insane and should be handled accordingly with the law, but this should serve as a reminder that you can be talking to anyone on the Internet and not know it, therefore we should be careful and not be so willing to forfeit our individual privacy.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very informational article for everyone to read. Although the situation was very unfortunate, it surely teaches people to learn to be very cautious when revealing information to others online. I feel as though most online dating sites can never be completely safe, so it is up to one whether they are willing to take the risk or not.
ReplyDeleteWho did she think she was? Santa Clause? People should wait much longer until they start giving their addresses out. -Avery Alexander
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy! I never understood the purpose of putting all of your info online or giving someone your address so soon after meeting them.
