Recently, a 16 year old novice driver hit and killed a 12 year old boy Friday evening in Lewisville, Texas. According to the police, the girl's father told her to start the car and he was to teach her basic car operations. Apparently, the girl placed the Nissan Sentra in reverse and accelerated out of her driveway hitting Eric Lozano and his 10 year old cousin. Lozano was pinned against a home after being hit. He was transported to the Medical Center of Lewisville where he was pronounced deceased while his cousin wasn't severely injured and was then released from the hospital Friday night.
I understand that she was beginning to drive because most of us begin to drive at this age and we get our permits/license. We all know that when we learn to drive and one of our parents/guardians are teaching us, they tend to freak out and tell us to brake. If the novice driver was accelerating too fast, why didn't her dad tell her to brake? Why didn't he point out that there are children behind her and she should be careful? Was her dad even in the car? This relates to APUSH because there are always going to be tragic events and as sad as they are, we learn from them. This should serve as a lesson that anyone behind the wheel must always drive with caution so in the future, things like this could be prevented and others will hopefully drive more safely.
I don't understand why they didn't check for people around the car before backing out. This is sad:(

I feel like since she is a minor and it is her dads responsibility to teach her and correct her driving that he is probably liable or at least responsible for the child's death
ReplyDeleteAs unfortunate as this situation is i don't believe anyone should be held criminally liable because it was an accident.
