Over the past four days, the bodies of 70 ISIS militants have been dropped off at a Syrian hospital in the town of Tal Abyad, according to representatives of a Syrian opposition group. The town is approximately 80 kilometers from the city of Raqqa, which was captured by the Islamic State last year. The city, once very liberal, is now an example of the application of hardline Islamic law that takes place within ISIS territory.
Because the bodies were dropped off at a hospital within ISIS territory, (Tal Abyad is controlled by ISIS) it is generally assumed that they were dropped off by other Islamic State fighters. The drop-off and number of bodies was confirmed by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has been covering the events and spread of ISIS since the beginning of the Syrian Revolution in 2011.
Meanwhile, the fighting between ISIS fighters and opposition groups has centered around the Kurdish town of Kobani, where American-backed Kurds and Iraqi security forces have dug in and resisted multiple Islamic State attempts to capture the area. Although US General Lloyd Austin (commanding the American support) has downplayed the importance of Kobani, saying that 'Kobani could fall', the town is the center of about 100 square miles of territory between Raqqa and the Turkish border. Occupation of this city would result in territorial gains and the ability to launch offensives across Turkish borders.
I think that Kobani is a very important city, and that we should try to assist the Kurds in resisting the relentless onslaught. American needs to help, or eventually the ISIS problem could get out of hand.
