Washington school shooter texted lunch table invites to victims: Vivie Behrens (Period 6, Week 4)

Last week, Jaylen Fryberg, a popular freshman high school student of a Washington high school, shot 5 of his peers consisting of some of his close friends including his ex-girlfriend and two of his own cousins. One girl, Zoe Galasso, died on the scene and Gia Soriano died in the hospital late Sunday night. The others, Shaylee Chuckulnaskit, Andrew Fryberg, and Nate Hatch remain hospitalized and are all in critical condition. Andrew Fryberg and Nate Hatch were both cousins of the shooter, Jaylen Fryberg, and the three were nearly inseparable. After Jaylen shot his victims, he took his own life with his final bullet. All of the families involved as well as the community as a whole are devastated by this tragic incident.
This is an example similar to the Sandy Hook school shooting, which occurred just two years ago. Incidents like these pose questions about the right to bear arms outlined in our Constitution. If situations like these keep occurring, aren't we putting the general public in danger by allowing guns to be purchased by the general public? Wasn't it the intention of the Founders to keep the common community protected by these arms, rather than harmed by these weapons? Jaylen's rampage will without a doubt cause this controversial debate to be discussed more widely in America. I believe that this Constitutional Amendment must be evaluated for its relevance in society today because certain aspects of this debate did not exist when the Bill of Rights was ratified.

  1. I can't believe that a student will kill his own classmates let alone his own family. It's a horrible thing for this to happen. My prayers go out to all their families and hope that we can somehow prevent this form happening in the future.
