Obama changes his opinion about same-sex marriage (Sharon Cordon, 4th period)

On May 2012 Obama first backed gay marriage and thought that the issue should be left to the states. He thought that the supreme court did well in rejecting gay marriage in the 5 states. Now he has approved of same-sex marriage in all 50 states under the equal protection clause of the constitution. The federal government extended federal benefits to same-sex married couples in states where gay marriage has been legalized, most recently giving benefits to those in the five states where the gay marriage appeals were rejected.

I think that its great that he's now allowing gay marriage in all the states, i think its should be as equally as fair for all of us. no discrimination to those who are gay. even with or without the approval of the gay marriage, many gay couples in 2013 had started to create their own families by adopting kids, so why be against gay marriage.

  3. I think thats not good personally. Its another example of the federal government usurping state power.

  4. As well as this action may seem, it is the government pushing their power over the states to implement a new law over states who may have votes against it. Equal rights for gays has been sought over for quite sometime, but forcing its acceptance may not be the path to travel by.

  5. Alot of presidents change there political stance on an issue because they know that eventually they would be fighting an uphill battle. I think hes just trying to get ahead before its to late
