Taking It Out on the Children: by Rachel Devine (6th period)

This past summer, there was serious conflict and tensions between Israel and the Gaza Strip. Teens on both sides were being killed, but in the past few months, the violence seemed to be subsiding in the media. However, it seems that the atrocities have now resumed. This past week, three kids were killed: one was a Palestinian girl in kindergarden, one was a baby, and the other was a Palestinian-American teen. Two of the three were ran over by motorists. People on both sides are devastated, enraged, and disgusted at the innocent lives that were lost and think it is completely naive to believe that any of the recent deaths were accidents.

As I was reading this article, I felt that there was definitely some bias throughout. I'm not sure what the background of the author is or which side that he supports, but it's just interesting to me to read about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict from America's point of view. When I was in Israel this summer  (in the middle of the conflict) it really opened my mind to the way that western civilization presents the news. It really saddens me how this conflict is involving innocent children. You can't help where you grow up, and it seems that these kids were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. We can only hope that the conflict will go away.

  1. I understand what you mean by, "the way that western civilization presents the news." Most articles we read in America are written by American author who might of not experienced the subject they write about. Also, this reminds me of the Patriot Act and the Sedation Act that were once put in place by the American government that limited what people could publish about the government. Which is basically censorship of the media.

  2. This is frustrating because some people still are unable to come to a compromise and continue to influence innocent people. Needless to say, this has an impact on the U.S. and can be interpreted in a different way.

  3. I agree that the point of view may influence the way the article is written. We must have both sides of the story before assuming. But it is still a horrible thing that innocent people are getting hurt because of nations unable to come to a compromise.
