Last weekend, 84 people were arrested in Keene, New Hampshire and more arrests are expected. Many students in the New England area violently rioted at a pumpkin festival over the weekend. They threw beer bottles/cans, billiard balls and rocks at police officers. They also started fires and overturned cars. The fire department treated over 30 people for injuries - mainly caused by thrown objects. The gathering was organized through the use of social media, and the police and school administrators plan on using social media to track down more students who were involved in the riot so that they can be punished for their actions.
Ralph Ellis wrote this article for CNN on October 20th. Before reading this article, I hadn't heard anything about these riots specifically. This article was written to inform people about the riots, and to update those interested in the event. It's scary to see just how violent this riot became, and surprising to see how many people were injured just because of people throwing things such as rocks and bear bottles. Interestingly enough, the majority of the people injured were students that were participating in the riot.

I think it's wild that people are calling this a "disurbance" loud music is a disturbance that was a riot.

ReplyDeleteI think it's so unusual they chose a pumpkin festival to have a riot. Also, throwing such objects at officers is not acceptable, they could have harmed them with the flying glass. -Elizabeth Muscari 6th
