California College Student with Meningitis- Ausia Jones

In San Diego, an eighteen year old student dies after being diagnosed with meningitis on Friday. Days before her passing the student was going out to different parties and even hanging out with her sister on her twenty-first birthday. Since the virus is contagious school officials had to notify 400 students who could have come in contact with this student. Situations where they're sharing things like glasses, eating utensils, cigarettes or pipes, water bottles and obviously oral contact with kissing are just a couple of ways this virus could be spread. It can be treated with antibiotics but receiving treatment quickly is key. The school is offering free preventative antibiotic, which is a great way to make sure that no one else, is infected with this fatal virus. Throughout history there have been viruses that have caused deaths such as the swine flu, Ebola, and Enterovirus. Some have been cured others haven't. The spread of disease can be related to trading throughout history. There are pros and cons when it comes to trading and one of the cons definitely has to be the spread of disease.

  1. It seems like disease is getting the best of us these days. I'm not very well versed in the health/medical area but I wonder why doctors haven't been able to identify a cause or find a cure of many diseases/illnesses that affect us daily.

  2. This is the age for doctors to grow in their medical field. It's time they do some major research and try to figure out a cure for all these diseases. I know that they are researching hard right now, but they should learn from all of this and try to prevent it late on.
