The bottom line of all of this is that these conservatives are scared of losing the House to Democrats. I don't think that limiting direct voting forever is worth preventing Democrats from potentially “taking over.” I feel as if this fear has derived itself from the inability of the GOP to pass its ideal legislation, such as tighter immigration policies and the repeal of Obamacare, despite having “control” over 3 branches. I've never understood why people will vote for a candidate that they don't like only because they are part of certain party. I digress. Attempts to put together a Constitutional Convention to address one thing or the other have occurred multiple times in the past, but they have yet to succeed. This situation reminds me of the first Constitutional Convention where the Federalists had decided that there needed to be a change from the Articles of Confederation, and the second when amendments were added to said Constitution. I'm not sure what it is but conservatives like these remind me a lot of Jacksonians. It's quite uncanny the resemblance they have to the backcountry and Anti-Federalist-esque strong states rights advocates of the past. Perhaps we are regressing…
