Elle Grinnell-teen might be alive if authorities hadn't over looked evidence from 2016

The killing and kidnapping of a 13 year old may have been able to be stopped if they had correctly handled DNA from a case before. They had evidence that linked the suspect to the case for at least a year but chose to do nothing about it. The teens body was taken from her driveway and found in water off of a rural road. They are now having an investigation which will Also be able to whether other cases were missed.
This just really frustrates me because if they had actually looked at the past evidence someone would've still been able to be alive. This isn't the first time something like this has happened though because I remember hearing a few years ago that after a certain amount of time cases are closed. a lot of the time, there is still a good amount of evidence that could link to the suspect and the case.
