Helping homeless kids put their best foot forward- Alix Kast

In this article, a young man named Nicholas Lowinger started a foundation to help homeless kids. As a child, he visited a homeless shelter with his mother who worked there and at various other shelters. The fact that kids just like him had very tattered shoes or no shoes at all really stuck with him. He wanted to make sure that these children would be able to get new shoes, so he started the Gotta Have Sole Foundation. Since 2010, shoes have been donated to 10,000 homeless children. Getting new shoes can help to boost a child's self esteem, as well as protecting their feet. It can also save parents from having to decide whether to pay for new shoes or to buy food for their families.

It's nice to hear about people helping one another and working together. People like Nicholas are really inspiring. We should all take the chance to help out in our own communities. Donating shoes or other items can seem simple, but it's more impactful than you might think.

  1. This is so cool! I've heard/seen man organizations before but not one as personal as this man has done. It's good to see that we still have some kind and generous people left in the world, and after reading so many negative current events it was nice to see one that made me smile!

  2. This is an awesome foundation and thing that this man has been able to do. It still makes me sad that there are so many people, families and children that are homeless and don't have even the simple things in life, like shoes. It makes me rethink my own position, because I have an abundance of shoes and clothes.
