After 13 years, abducted son is reunited with father. Joan Milburn pd. 1

A child who was kidnapped in florida back in 2000 was finally returned home to his father after 13 long years. The father never gave up looking for his son, and he finally got his wish to be reunited with him. The son, however, was no stranger to his kidnapper. He was kidnapped by his own Grandmother named Sandy Hatte(60), when he was a toddler. His father went away to work and when he returned home Hatte and the son were gone. It took 13 years to track them down even though they were homeless for some time.

This story is truly heart wrenching. I can't imagine being taken away by my own grandmother, someone you should trust and depend on, and not seeing my father for 13 years. I am astonished that the boy and the Grandmother went undetected for so long. It also angers me that the grandmother was taking a big part of the boys life away from his own father. I admire the father's persistence, and how he never stopped looking for his son.

  1. I wonder why a member of his own family would take away his son. Especially someone as old as a grandmother, what motive would she have for doing that? Maybe she saw the father as unfit for the role of a parent and took matters into her own hands.

  2. I can't even imagine that being possible. It's horrible that a grandmother would do that.

  3. What a strange story. The grandmother must have been mentally unstable or something along those lines. It's good that the boy was finally reuninted with his dad, but it'll probably be hard to adjust after not seeing him for 13 years.

  4. How could someone kidnap their own grandchild? And get away with it for 13 years? There must have been something mentally wrong with her because I can't think of a legitimate reason for a grandmother to kidnap her son? Maybe she believed the dad was dangerous (which he obviously is not) or she was just crazy. I am glad that the child could be reunited with his father and that this horrible woman was finally caught.

  5. I don't understand this type of thing. If the grandmother was around the boy in the first place, able to see him and be a part of the family, I don't understand her need to kidnap him. It must have been terrible trying to locate him all of these years.
