A prank organized by the Delta Mu chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha franternity of the University of Southern Mississippi as a pledge initiation went horribly wrong when one student decided to steal a flamingo instead of simply following though with the original plan to take a picture with a swam. Though seemingly difficult to sway from the original instructions, student Devin Nottis managed to take a bird in place of a picture. The flamingo then died sometime after arriving at the fraternity's house and was deposited on the side of the road. A local noticed the pink bird on the side of the road and reported to police officials. Upon further investigation, the police found footage of Nottis and three other students leaving with the bird. Then, the male mate of the original flamingo passed away due to blunt force trauma. There are currently 9 students being investigated for conspiracy for this felony and the university indefinitely suspended the franternity.
This situation can somewhat be related to young America. The fraternity is symbolic of the new government being formed, dependent on all its members to cooperate and follow close instructions in order for it to succeed. If it weren't for this one student stealing a flamingo, the fraternity may have persevered to this day. If it weren't for our government's longevity, this student may not have been punished by our just laws.

It's so sad how some people are so inconsiderate of other living beings.
ReplyDeleteInitiations and hazing have become so obscure and harmful that I don't see it as a point to prove your worth but to see how much damage you can cause. There have been multiple stories where initiations into college greek life have resulted in hospitalization and sometimes the loss of a life.
ReplyDeleteThis is so obviously an immature and harmful act, as well as typical of "well-thought-out" pranks of college kids.. It's just unfortunate that it ended up being harmful to some uninvolved creatures. Hopefully, these 'adults' will think things through the next time, or at least keep with the prank plan.

Immaturity. This is unacceptable and unruly. This ended horribly but started out as a joke.

DeleteThis is very childish and these students not only need to be punished but hopefully understand what their actions are leading to. Unfortunately there are much more things going on in the world similar to this or much worse.
