The ebola storm - Alyssa Hamilton 3rd

The main topic of conversations today, ebola, that's all we hear about. However, while we sit in our homes and joke about it, the "storm" is actually getting worse. At the hospital where the late ebola patient was being taken care of one of the nurses involved in treating him has tested positive. The hospital has said that they were prepared for this, as they expected a second case. The nurse has been put in isolation and is being treated very carefully now as we speak. Another case of ebola was also discovered in Madrid. The fear as of right now is that it will become a world wide epidemic, but doctors are urging people that this isn't so.
How would they know? They can't predict the future, so many times in the past the world has faced epidemics like this, and lost. The plague, small pox, and many others, now ebola. Who's to say that it won't spread around the world. Especially with how connected we all are now a-days.

  1. I don't think we should be living in fear of ebola, theirs no point in just sitting around being scared of it. I recognize the seriousness but at the same time I also trust the experts who are saying this will not break out into a world wide epidemic, and so far only two people in the U.S. have it. Thats a pretty small number.

  2. I think this relates to what our society went through in the 80s with AIDS. Everyone assumed that they would contract AIDS, although many did, people tended to get misconceptions on how one actually got AIDS. Personally, I think that we should take precautions and be alert, however; compared to the past events with AIDS, we shouldn't just assume everyone will get it. AIDS has been in the country for 50 years, but no one takes as drastic measures as we are with Ebola, which has been in the US for two weeks. I don't believe many, if any, will continue to contract the virus. -Elizabeth Muscari P6

  3. I also did my current event on this. Ebola is a serious subject, but it also is only transmitted by direct contact or sneezing. It is something we need to watch out for but not something we need to stress about and overlook.

  4. I believe doctors will confine it and most likely because of our medical technology and know how it will stay confined to well under 100 people
