Spacecraft Superstitions- Td Simons 2nd pd

A space plane is planned to land in the next week in Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. This mysterious unmanned spacecraft has been orbiting earth for more than two years on a military mission. What makes this space trip so mysterious is that the air force only tells the public when the plane takes off and when it lands, but nothing in between. The only explanation we get is that they are testing technologies and advancing “guidance, navigation and control, etc.” Speculation has been made that they are also testing secret space weapons or spying activities are going on. Officials say that they believe more missions like these will occur, but not sure of the specific number.
This article was written by Brad Lendon from CNN today, Monday October 13, 2014. This article gets CNN readers intrigued again about space. There has been little going on with space in the news so this article was a good way to get readers rallied-up. I believe that the superstition of the spacecraft’s mission is somewhat fictional and dramatized, but it does grab reader’s attention. If there is something greater going on though, this could be like the ‘Space Race’ between the US and Russia throughout the later twentieth century.

  1. I agree that this article definitely sparks a new interest in space. I personally find it interesting as well. However, I doubt that anything suspicious is going on but it's still intriguing.

  2. These sorts of missions and secretive operations always leave a trail of rumors following behind them, yet one can never really know unless one has personal confirmation of information. We can just hope that the information gathered on these expeditions is being used appropriately and for the actual benefit of America and the world as a whole.
