Late Saturday night in Maine, a haunted hayride flipped over, killing a 17-year old girl and injuring more than 20 others. The incident occured in Pumkin Land, a venue that has many Halloween-themed activities, located about 30 miles north of Portland. The tractor-trailor carrying the people was being hauled by a Jeep through a heavily wooded forest as a Halloween-themed activity which included "things that jump and scream at night". Investigators believe a mechanical problem prevented the Jeep from being able to stop. It then went off the road, speeding down a hill and plowed into a tree. Authorities are now investigating the Jeep further in hopes to find what caused the crash.
This story is so saddening, especially because there is really no way it could have been prevented. I hope that those who were injured in the accident don't have any life-threatening injuries. I also hope the authorities are able to find out what caused the crash, in order to prevent it from happening again.
