I read the
article, Is “16 And Pregnant’ An
Effective Form Of Birth Control?,” by the NPR staff. It was published
January 13th and posted on NPR’s website. This article looks at the
data behind a study claiming the MTV television show, “16 and Pregnant,” has
led to a decrease in teen birth rates starting around 2008. This was discovered
through Google and Twitter. This illustrates the positive influence that the
media can have on teens.
While I’m not a
fan of the series, I think that it is great that teens are realizing the
reality of having children as a teenager despite the glamorization of teen
birth that is sometimes seen. I believe that measures should be taken to insure
an even steeper decline. Sex-ed programs need to stop being delusional and
realize that teen pregnancy can be nearly eliminated with proper action.

ReplyDeleteProper Sex-Education For the Win!
ReplyDeleteThe possibility that this show could positively influence sex education is indeed wonderful. Yet, I tend to suspect that other factors may be involved.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, instead of making more shows for MTV to get its grabby hands on, why don't we set up proper sex ed classes? Hiding the truth about sex and how to have safe sex isn't helping anyone, and often leads to very unsafe sex. Society needs to stop ignoring the fact that we've all gotta learn about the nasty at some point. I am so classy whee!
ReplyDeleteI agree that we need proper education for that kind of stuff -Nia Edwards 4th period
