A family on vacation lost their mother while in St. Maarten. The body was later sent to their home, in New Jersey. When it was discovered, it was shocking to realize that the body in the casket was not the same as their deceased mother. They were then asked to pay $7,000 to return the body, while they still had no idea where their mother was. Apparently there was a mix up with another family who had also lost someone in the area. Unfortunately, they were unaware of the mistake and had the body cremated. The government has gotten involved to try to locate the ashes and DNA test them for the mourning family. They have also said that if they could find a mistake in what happened, that the family would be given refunds.
I'm sure that this family was already in great mourning from the loss of their mother. I can only imagine what it would be like to not know where a loved one's body was. I think I would be angry if I were asked to pay $7,000 for a mistake that I did not commit, so I really hope that they get their money back. I also hope that they are able to locate the body.

Comment by Rhyann Lee 5th period. THIS IS SOOOO MESSED UP! I would feel so offended if someone asked me to pay for a mistake they did! and they still didn't even find my mother! that's unacceptable !
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is not fair at all to have them pay that much money for someone else's mistake! That was not their fault. I also can't imagine the shock of receiving someone else's dead body instead of what you were expecting!
ReplyDeleteIt's upsetting that they're asking the family to pay so much to send the body back when it wasn't their fault. I hope that the cremated body turns out to be someone else because that would just make this entire thing even more sad if the family can't say good-bye to their loved one.
ReplyDeleteIt's ridiculous that they were asked to pay 7000 dollars for someone else's mistake... Especially because they're already going through so much! Hopefully they will find the mother and be able to say a proper goodbye.
