10 reasons to give up diet soda/ Arlesia McGowan Period 4

So one of the most common addictions besides drugs and alcohol, in my opinion, is diet soda. Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke, Diet Sprite, Diet this, Diet that; diet soda may seem addicting but the side effect what it provides (that we don't know about) can be more risky than that of regular soda. Here's the scoop. When taken at face value, diet soda seems like a health-conscious choice. It saves you the 140-plus calories you'd find in a sugary soft drink while still satisfying your urge for something sweet with artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, and sucrose. But there's more to this chemical cocktail than meets the eye. Artificial Sweeteners have more intense flavor than real sugar, so over time products like diet soda dull our senses to naturally sweet foods like fruit, says Brooke Alpert, author of "The Sugar Detox." Even more troubling, these sugar stand-ins have been shown to have the same effect on your body as sugar.
I'm not much of a soda drinker but I found this surprising because I didn't expect  something so diet to be so addicting and not so good for you. I also think that it is appropriate to be moderate about consuming such a drink like that. Its not so bad until you get addicted, and that goes for anything in my opinion.

  1. I love diet coke a lot, it is one of my favorite sodas and I will always drink it when I go to a restaurant, but I don't think that would make me an addict.

  3. That is crazy! I gave up soda a couple of months ago, and I have so much more energy because of it! After reading this, I completely understand why it was so hard for me. I definitely know a lot of people who have a dependency on diet soda.
