Summary: On November 5, 2018, just an hour and a half after their wedding, Will Byler, his new wife Bailee Ackerman Byler, and the captain of the helicopter they were flying away from their wedding in Uvalde, Texas died when the helicopter crashed about 85 miles west of San Antonio. They both attended Sam Houston University. Will was a senior and majored in agricultural engineering, and Bailee majored in agricultural communication. Gerald Greene Lawrence was the name of the pilot, and he was a captain of the Army, and a Vietnam War veteran. Friends and families sent in their condolences in person and over social media, generally saying things along the lines of how happy they were that night, and my favorite, "How awesome to spend your honeymoon with Jesus."
Analysis: This is a bittersweet event, considering they went down together, on the happiest days of their lives. They were both still in college, and it only makes it even more tragic that their lives cut short at young ages. Before I read this article, I didn't know anything about this happening at all. This is all new, tragic news to me. This article was written by the writing staff at BBC (the names weren't listed), and it was written to offer the world the chance to celebrate the lives of the two people who died on the happiest days of their lives. This can be related to the Day the Music Died, which was when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson all fatally passed away in a plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa in 1959.
This is so sad, its crazy how our lives can be taken from us at any second, even just hours after a wedding. I hope their family will be ok, and can move on from this terrible tragedy. You are right though at least the newly weds went down together. - Joziah German
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad! Its scary how the little things, can change our lives so suddenly. Every time we get in a car, or even, like this case, a plane/ helicopter, we don't expect our lives to be taken from us. Even more sad, was that they were just married, and had just committed to spending a lifetime with each other.
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad and shows that life is very fragile and things can change so quickly I hope that this family can heal and find peace in their lives in the future.
