Elle Grinnell- He ate a slug as a dare, became paralyzed and died

An Australian teenager had no idea that eating a slug would put him into a coma that would eventually end his life. In the year 2010 the slug crawled in front of the teenage boys across the patio. After consuming the slug the boy then started to complain of weakness and pain in his legs. Once the boy told his mother that he ate a slug they took him to the doctor and were informed that he had developed rat lungworm disease which would change his life forever. The worms life cycle does not complete within a human so instead it gets lost and goes to places such as the brain. Most cases are mild but some can cause catastrophic damage. He then fell into a coma which was 420 days long and when he woke up he was paralyzed. He then passed on Monday morning with several people he loved around him.
Although this is a serious situation and it isn't the same it reminds me of the breakout of teens eating tide pods. Both of these things are items you really wouldn't and shouldn't be eating. In one way or another they are going to affect your health. These are also unknown things for someone to think of eating, at times like this although its sad I really think people need to just use more common sense.https://www.cnn.com/2018/11/05/health/man-dies-after-eating-slug-on-dare/index.html

  1. This story is an absolute tragedy, and a total telltale case of how we must be reminded that the world is not one to play around with, and that the most harmless things may in the end lead to a lifelong of pain, however long that may turn out to be in the end.

  2. Wow, that's really crazy. That's why it's important to consider your own wellbeing in situations and not what other people think if you do something on a dare

  3. I agree! Normally when playing a random game of truth or dare, you wouldn't expect the dare to end with a fatal injury. There are these small and meaningless things that you don't think could cause any harm, but they do, that's why it is so important to be careful in whatever you do.

  4. In today’s days I feel like people don’t take things as serious or bother to think of all the consequences. This is a really tragic story to hear about but it’s also kind of like a reminder that sometimes we think little things like this won’t harm us but they do. Maybe not in that second but they do. -Lesly Marquez

  5. Honestly, our generation is a hot mess. People are just doing and eating random things like nothing will happen to them!

  6. This is so sad, and this really does relate to the outbreak of eating tide pods just for fun and laughs.
