In 1907 roughly 1 million people cam to Ellis island in search of  a better life. Last year about the same number of Europeans came to Ellis island to flee inhospitable conditions. Frederick Sherman, a man helping document, noticed how many people were coming and  photographed some. He photographed the one who were being detained for medical reasons or other reasons. he was able to get about 200 photos of the immigrants.
