"Climate Change Is Real" // Uriel Cruz, Period 6

Last night was certainly a night to remember. It marked the end of the Leonardo DiCaprio never winning an Oscar meme and Rock's return to the spotlight. What truly stood out to me, and by that I mean what seemed easy to write about, was DiCaprio's winning speech. If you've seen The Revanant, or at least the trailer, you'd know there's a bunch of snow everywhere. DiCaprio mentions in his speech that the shooting location had to be moved just to get some snow in the shot and then talks about how climate change and global warming are threats to our entire species.

DiCaprio reminded me of what Teddy Roosevelt wanted to do with conversing wild life and how that led the way to national parks. His speech could bring the conservationalist movement back into mainstream media and help save the planet and our species.

  1. It stunned me how far they had to travel just to find snow. Also I find it very interesting and admirable that he used his acceptance speech to talk about climate change.
