Christa Hamby p1- Breakthrough Melanoma Treatment

A drug called ipilimumab came out in 2011, it was a drug meant to help treat patients with melanoma. Now, after tests were run, we have found that this is true. This drug can extend a melanoma patients life by 10 years, and scientist are hopeful that it's the key to unlocking the cure for skin cancer. Seeing as how melanoma is the most fatal kind of cancer, this can be a major step to figuring out how to defeat it once it spreads past the first stages.

I think that this breakthrough is extraordinary. I have had members of my family and close family friends pass away to cancer and even though it's not the kind they had it still shows potential for the making of more cures that could one day pertain to them. These are the scientific breakthroughs that keeps society moving forward towards bigger and better things and I'm so happy that I'm able to see the makings of a huge accomplishment.
