Summary: Early this morning, an Islamic school for Quranic studies in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, caught on fire and killed at least 50 people while injuring many. The school itself shouldn't have been functioning because it's license hadn't been authorized yet. By the time emergency arrived, most of the building had already been caught by the flames. The cause of this horrendous fire is still unknown Students who have been victimized by this fire are between the ages of 13 and 17 but to find out about the younger victims DNA testing will be necessary. Although many witnesses tried to help the children escape, they were being restricted by grills covering the windows.
Synthesis: Many events similar to this have taken place in history (religious schools burning down). The most recognized being the Our Lady of the Angels school in Chicago in 1958. The Ronan catholic school caught fire in the basement and it took a longtime before anyone noticed which allowed the fire to keep growing. The gaseous air filled the pipes and reached others. Too much damage had already been done by the time a rescue team came, similar to the Malaysian fire. The Roman Catholic school had impacted many, reaching headlines in the US, Canada. and Europe. This historical event made all schools realize the amount of safety they need to ensure in their buildings.
Analysis: My heart mourns for the lives lost and affected by this disaster. Being at school you don't think about what could happen and what's going on around you because you're too absorbed in your work. Then again it doesn't matter where you are; no one ever expects something like that to happen. I hate hearing about these tragedies because I imagine the innocence and potential of these children being taken due to something uncontrollable. I know life isn't fair but it still bothers me that horrible things happen to good people. Hearing that the school wasn't even supposed to be operating makes me think that if they had just followed the rules, these lives wouldn't have been taken and damage wouldn't have been done. However, I understand that they were probably too eager to eduacate the generations of our future to wait but rules are in place for a reason. I hope that the cause of the fire was accidental and there was no act of hatred behind it. I know that's a crazy thought, but in this world it's reasonable to think that way because people can be cruel. Although that isn't the reason for some religious centers catching on fire, it's a coincidence that most schools that do catch on fire in this way, are religious. People tend to be hateful towards others of different religions, race, gender, sexuality, etc. I just hope that the lost lives can now rest in peace and the grieving families will one day find peace.

Children all around the world hope and dream for a world of knowledge and education, but even though school is supposed to be a safe haven it still remains a danger and a risk just to register. My heart goes to the victims brave enough to seek knowledge and understanding.
