Protesters at the University of Virginia had covered a statue of Thomas Jefferson. They did this as a protest against white supremacy, and the students called a request on banning white supremacist groups. This happened after the protest against taking down his statue. Now, the reason his statue was covered was because, though he was a founding father he was notorious for owning slaves, up to 140.
In my opinion I find it very ironic that he wrote "all men are created equal" when he owned MANY slaves. He doesn't deserve that statue, and when people say that the statues are for remembering histroy... I'm pretty sure people wouldn't forget what he did. They didn't react in violence, they didn't beat anybody up so I'm fine with this protest.Well, slavery and the founding fathers were a HUGE part of US history. Slave trade was also part of the Triangle Trade, and this is the entire reason that people don't want the confederate statues, because it's honoring a person that did so many horrible things to their people.

I agree with taking the statue down. Sadly, if we were to remove every statue of historical figures who have wronged, almost all of them would be gone.
