President Donald Trump threatens to permanently remove another key pillar to the foundation of the former presidency that was built by his predecessor, President Barack Obama. To clarify, the pillar I speak of is the DACA, or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. The DACA is a statement that claims that any underage/minor illegal immigrants have the right to work and have access to a renewable two-year period to stay within the country without being deported.
During a press conference shortly after Trump made these statements, no questions were answered about whether or not the president would consider changing this process or change the idea of continuing this at all. However, it is important to mention that this seems highly unlikely because the main source attempting to remove the DACA, besides Mr. Trump, is the State of Texas, which is currently having enough issues with the horrors and damage left behind from Hurricane Harvey. As of now, this is a tug of war from within both sides rather than between the two sides. Not surprisingly, this is seen from Mr. Trump as he's sworn to protect those who use the DACA program, such as college students, while also promising to have no mercy on illegal immigrants, including college students. Once again, the system here is only seen as black and white, but it makes it even more difficult to acknowledge that for almost all of the immigrants there is nothing but grey.

Liam Wise- I think it's really intriguing that our president has gotten into a habit of removing important systems without a stable replacement. I mean, just look at the healthcare bill. He's getting into the habit of shoving responsibility for his own decisions onto other parties, like congress.
ReplyDeleteI loved your black and white vs. gray metaphor, it is incredibly accurate in situations based on human rights. How do you feel about the satires on how to prevent deportation, such as the adoption of adults by other adult US citizens?
ReplyDeleteI think what Trump is doing is going to really change things for everyone. This system is important to many lives that come to the US for better opportunities and Trump is taking that opportunity away.
ReplyDeletePoliticians have been doing nothing but talking about what to do with Dreamers for over 15 years. Even Obama said that DACA was only supposed to be a short-term placeholder until a more permanent solution was passed. From what I heard today, Trump has told Congress that they have six months to do their job.
ReplyDeletePeople at the moment are worried for there futures. Some are already planning on what to do about it. There is so many protests that are going on at the moment. I feel that the president should make a law as soon as possibly to protect some of the rights for the DREAMERS so they don't get deported.
