Sam Blumberg- Uh Oh Equifax!

Equifax, one of the main credit reporting companies, which has records of millions of peoples' Social Security numbers, birth dates, credit card numbers, etc., discovered that they were the victim of a massive cyber-heist. Hackers had access to the information of about 143 million people in the United States between May and July. With this crucial information, it will be easy for them to commit identity theft. This data breach will be very harmful to Equinox because their entire business is being safe space that people can trust with their personal information and, sadly, it wasn't. A few Equifax executives may be behind this, because they sold shares of the company right after the breach was found and they had "no knowledge that an intrusion had occurred at the time."
This article was written to let people know that their personal information may be at risk so they should be extra watchful for signs that they're identities have been stolen. This article is important because it teaches us that nothing is truly safe and that, in this modern world, we always have to be watching our backs to make sure that nothing of ours has been compromised. We also learned that detection of hacks is taking way too long and that it should have been taken care of before 44% of the population was vulnerable.
