Oak Lawn Park's Removal of Robert E. Lee Statue- Dajia Y. Dominguez

During the afternoon of today, there was suppose to be the removal of the Robert E. Lee statue in Oak Lawn. The city council has been motivated  on the removal of the statue since Charlottesville,VA after the deadly protests. Four out the fourteen council members are black, and only three of them were adamant about the removal of this statue. Thirteen out of one council members agreed. That one council member, Sandy Greyson, who lives in the Far North Dallas district, WANTED the statue to remain up. She wanted " The public process to unite people." How exactly is a statue of the general of the confederacy a "public process to unite people" ? Someone please explain this to me.
Unfortunately, the federal court granted permission to temporarily halt the removal of the statue. The person who granted this is U.S. District Judge Sidney Fitzwater, and apparently until tomorrow will there be any further news about what is going to happen with  the statue. I can only hope that everyone  will be considerate of our pass so we can move on to the future.

  1. I completely agree the postponement of the removal is pointless. Robert E. Lee was the main general for the Confederacy in the Civil War and seeing how the Confederates lost the war, I see no reason for the statue to remain. I know that Lee was prominent military figure, but times have changed, especially in Texas.

  2. If Texas still represents a confederacy then it's hard to feel united. I think the removal is a good idea, especially when times are this uneasy.
