Summary:
Ri Chun-Hee is an extremely influential and recognizable face in North Korea, as for the past few decades, she has been at the helm of most every braking news story in her country. She frequently appears dressed in a traditional Korean hanbok in her signature pink. Most recently, the 74-year-old has announced to the North Korean public the success of the most recent missile launches in preparation for their attacks on the US and Japan.
Analysis:
Ri Chun-Hee mirrors very closely Tokyo Rose, the female announcer of Japanese propaganda during World War II. Tokyo Rose was the name given to a group of women, fluent in English, to taunt American soldiers over the radio. The similarities of these women and Ri Chun-Hee are that they all seem to have an eerie disposition and both present situations they report in a way that is almost maternal. They each have a way of convincing their listeners that they know what's best.
