Italian mafia kingpin arrested in Uruguay after two decades on the run
A convicted drug kingpin of the Calabrian mafia, Rocco Morabito, was found and arrested last tuesday after being in hiding for 20 years. He was convicted of multiple drug crimes in 1994, and fled to Uruguay with a false Portuguese passport and Brazilian birth certificate. When he was found and arrested, he had 13 cellphones, 12 credit cards, and $50,000 cash. His wife was also arrested. Morabito will now face 30 years for the drug crimes he committed.
I think that what Morabito did was wrong, but very impressive. He hid for 20 years. Although that's very illegal, he had to be pretty smart to be able to pull that off.
In the 1920s the mafia was highly involved in sneaking alchol into the country during prohibition. Since the majority of those people were wanted by the police, many of them hid out across the country or out of it.
How does someone get so many identity-issued items while in deep hiding??? Very smart dude.
ReplyDeleteWow- although what he did was very wrong and immoral... he had the brains to pull off that charade for 20 years. I wonder how long he will be sentenced for?
ReplyDeletemaria gonzalez- After 20 years in hiding he is only facing 30 years of jail? I wonder how much the Calabrian mafia will be affected after one of its 'kingpin' has been arrested.
