Ellie Bush- Georgia Tech student shot by police

University police in the US state of Georgia have shot and killed and LGBT student activist, sparking an inquiry. Police encountered Scout Schultz, a 21 year old, outside a campus dorm with a knife and a gun late on Saturday. The students parents said police should not have used lethal force. She was heard saying "Shoot me!" Several times while walking towards the officers. A police officer responded by telling her to drop the knife. They didn't have intentions of hurting her, but eventually opened fire because police in the us are often required to use lethal force against any suspect who they believe presents an immediate danger to officers or members of the community.

This article was probably written to raise awareness that police officers sometimes have to do things they may not want to do in order to keep everyone protected and safe. Even though some people might say that it wasn't right to shoot her, but she did pose as a threat to the campus. There are shootings almost every day, and it is becoming a normal thing.

  1. I can understand why the police felt the need to use lethal force, but at the same time the woman did carry a knife in her hand, and at any time could've thrown and injured someone. Do you know if anything else provoked the officers into shooting?

  2. We may never know what the officer was thinking. However, women in general are less of a threat than men are so maybe it wasn't their place to shoot till she spoke or made the first physical threat.

  3. Wish more information was given on her actions towards the police because it is hard to determine if her actions were in fact "dangerous". It just sucks to know that the police necessarily didn't have to take this drastic of a route.
