Adam Ondra conquered the world's hardest climb last Monday. Only 24 years old, the climbing prodigy only took 20 minutes to complete the 45-meter ascent. Located in Norway, Hanshelleren is classified as a 9c climb making it the most difficult climb in the world. The cave is a beautiful, granite overhang structure that looks out on the gorgeous scenery of Trondeim. To train for this climb, Ondra spent months in the gym doing intense workouts; he also took four trips to Norway to visit the cave. Ondra was born in Brno, Czech Republic in 1993 and has been climbing rocks and caves since then. He is an extremely talented climber for his young age, and intends to attend the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, and take home the gold for the newly added sport, climbing. His resume of climbs includes El Capitan's Dawn Wall in Yosemite National Park. The fabled wall has only ever been completed by three climbers, including Ondra.
It is amazing the mental and physical strength that it took to complete such a demanding climb. The improvements that humans have made in the past century, not only with technology, but with the way that our bodies have evolved and developed to be stronger, faster, and smarter is incredible. Adam Ondra is a prime example of how advanced human determination has become. To keep going through pain, burning muscles, and plain misery reveals the sheer willpower of his character. Ondra continues to improve, and not settle and be content with his achievements so far. Which is another glaring sign that he is truly a "modern day superman".

ReplyDeleteI've always been somewhat fascinated by stories like these. I think it's so cool that this man decided he was going to climb this wall and he pushed himself to the limit and really did it. If this wall was once considered impossible, then what else that we think can't be done is possible?
