Samuel Martin - 3 Killed In Chase After Fleeing Border Patrol

3 Killed After Pickup Truck Fleeing Border Patrol Hits Tire Spikes and Crashes

Summary
When a pickup truck ran through the border in southern California, border patrol started to chase the vehicle on Interstate 8 because the officers believed that this truck was part of a smuggling operation. The officers reported that they found pieces of the truck on the vehicle barrier, giving them the authority to track down the truck. The truck careened down the highway at over 100 mph, weaving recklessly between cars on the highway until it hit road spikes, flips throwing the 9 people out of the bed, and killing 3 people in total, injuring the other 7 seriously.

Analysis
This article was written on November 30, 2018 in New York City, New York. This means that the information is very current, but it is not very close to the source of the event. I had not heard about this even before i read this NYTimes article. This relates to US History because in 2010, a teenager named Sergio Hernandez illegally crossed the border and was shot and killed by border patrol agents without any substantial evidence against him. The article's audience is all of the United States, but could be narrowed down to those who live near the border. The article was written by Matthew Haag who is a general reporter at the New York Times. This article was written to inform the American public about the current border policy and the events taking place at the border. This is important because citizens of the U.S. should stay informed and up to date on current government policies so that they can make more informed decisions for example when they exercise their right to vote.
