Texas rapist receives no jail time - Paola Aceves

A former Baylor student was very upset when the verdict on her case would result in her rapist, also a former student, to receive no jail time. Instead he was let off on probation and with a fine and counseling. The man will not even be registered as a sex offender. This would not be the first time this judge has let off cases of sexual misconduct. He has let off other cases, one of which pleaded guilty, on probation as well.

We continue to see the way women are treated as lesser in the legal system. Speaking up on issues, whether it be large scale, or personal, aren't taken as seriously as they should be in many cases.

  1. Disappointed but not surprised. This has been happening so much recently that it's just expected for the rapist to walk away with not many consequences. This needs to change.

    1. And this is exactly the issue because people have become numb to these cases and dont give them the importance needed. It is unacceptable that he got off the hook so easily whike this girk has to deal with the life-long trauma.

    2. I agree with you, it is a shame that our society has become numb to traumas like these. It is a sign that they happen much too often.

  2. There's no debate on whether rape is legal or not, thank god, but it seems like some people think it isn't a big deal when cases like this don't receive serious treatment. This makes me very upset.

    1. Rape should never be taken lightly. However, due to the current political climate I doubt much will change.

  3. This case needs further investigation in order to get the rapist convicted. I also believe that the judge should be investigated as well because it it’s clear that they let these cases slide then they are not fit to decide whether or not a rapist gets off free or not.

  4. This is so awful it hardly even feels real. This judge could only be considered doing his job under the loosest of assumptions. Its bad enough the rapist gets off Scott free but the fact that he's not registered as an offender means he will likely have the opportunity to do this again.

    1. I agree with you. Because if the current climate regarding assault, many men and women are afraid to share their stories.

  6. THIS MAKES ME SICK! How could something like this be "ok"?

  7. This is soooooooooooo disappointing! This is the exact reason why women stay quiet because the chances of anything actually to happen are so small and this is an example of it!

  8. Ugh, lord. Unfortunately we've all come to expect that this would be the verdict, and this is infuriating because with more and more cases like these slipping by it seems like the effects of the #metoo moment are beginning to dwindle.
