Michael Cohen, Donald Trump's former lawyer used to be very loyal to the president but because of the ongoing Russia investigation, Michael has turned against him.
Because he so forcefully pulled against being investigated in the beginning, even resorting to legal action, he will get 3 years in prison.

This relates to history because the President and his people are constantly under scrutiny. The article itself refers to Watergate, which got Richard Nixon impeached. Trump is losing a lot of his "inner circle" and it looks kind of like when Hamilton implicated himself to clear his name in the Reynold's Pamphlet. All of these lawyers and bankers are implicating wrongs that they've done in an effort to cooperate in a large and high impacting investigation.
